I bought one of those big boxes with little packets of chips for the kids lunches. Some of the packets were joined together and I was unable to separate them without opening them. I called Smith's just to alert them to the problem not really expecting anything. The customer service rep was extremely polite and asked me for some details from the packaging and my details. A few days later I got a cheque that covered the cost of the entire box. I wrote back telling Smith's how great the customer service rep was because too often we are quick to complain but not compliment.

I agree we should thank the companies that show great customer care.

Yeah they are very good indeed. I actually called them once because one of the packs was half full. Talked about quality control and etc. They were extremily friendly and did send me a replacement pack (I didnt even ask for it) and a gift. So yeah very pleased with them

I always ring the customer hotline numbers if I have a problem with a product. I once had a can of rice cream without the cream, a can of tuna without the chilli it was supposed to have, a quiche with a hair in it, and a whole lot of other things! Most people don't bother - especially for a $1 can of tuna, but the companies always appreciate being told, and how can they rectify problems if we don't tell them?

Having been a customer service/ complaints officer for a national company (before kids)
I am always amazed that some people believe that being rude will get them better service. It doesn't it just makes the poor person on the end oft phone cranky . I would always be polite & resolve the issue but i always made an extra effort for those people who complained politely & with respect towards me. I always remember that the person trying to help you is not the one who made the mistake. Treat them well & they will do like wise after all there job is to help you
