Years and years ago I used to know someone who worked in a resort on one of the Great Barrier Reef Islands. She offered me (and some friends) a "free" holiday of up to two weeks in their off season. Accomodation would be free but we pay for our food, travel to get there etc.

The theory was that it was better to have someone in their rooms than noone. Especially with it being an island so we would have to buy food & pay for any extras.

Unfortunately I'm not still in contact with her, and I can't remember which resort it was. But I wonder if they and other hotels would be interested in a similar deal. Even if it was just a short stay, maybe overnight during the week in a hotel in a capital city.

Of course, it could go further and they could pamper us with rooms service and massages/facials ...

cheers
Djuma

Another idea could be for hotels or resorts that are just opening, we could be crash test dummies (so to speak) to test out their services and work out the kinks before they open.

Thats a great idea. I spent ages trying to find somewhere decent that's not too expensive for our upcoming holiday to the Gold Coast. When I find a good place, I always make sure I let them know on their webiste and blog about it and put links of facebook, so it would be great free advertising for them if we all did that!

I too would be interested in this because with a large family it is not easy to find something suitable.

I've just got back from a week on the Gold Coast and we stayed at Miami (15 mins from the centre of Surfers) at the Grande Florida Resort in a brilliant 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom apartment with a full kitchen and laundry. It also had secure underground parking, 2 pools, BBQ areas, direct beach access (less than 5 mins walk to a patrolled beach) and easy walking distance to supermarkets, post office, chemist, banks food etc. I happened to get a great deal from our local newspaper earlier in the year and it worked out to only be around $80 a night - fantastic value and we'll be staying there again. Here's a link if anyone's interested

Checked out the photos and the hotels website - looks fantastic. Lets know if the hotel advertise in your newspaper again, as rack rates were avg $200 night I prefer those resorts than the highrises, especially with kids.

i am signed up to places like wotif, expedia and others that will offer last minute specials. i know atm at the gold coast accommodation is cheap and it is school holidays - that is scary.

we have a timeshare we use at the gold coast for a week and am thinking of selling it. we also have wyndham timeshare and others i know have accor. the resorts all have their own programs - look at whether it is worth signing up to/what you get.

I'd like to road test places to stay with small kids (under 5) as a lot of places seem geared for older kids rather than people like me with a 3yo and a baby. I've had a few kinks travelling with them, so it might be very useful for the hotels/resorts to have some 'real' input into any product design/redesign.
