| "Let's ruin the internet for everyone, because a few people can't censor themselves or watch what their children do online! ... and let's try to stop people saying anything bad about it!"

| And more on what else they may block on top of an unknown list of 'illegal' things:

| | I completely agree, it's a waste of tax payers money. Parents should be supervising their children or educating them to make the right choices. It's all a bit too "big brother" for me. | | | |

| | I know China implements something like that, and they have a little policeman pop-up of some sort in internet cafes happening to 'remind' them not to look at anything illegal. This stuff can get very nasty very quickly. | | | |

| It could slow our internet speeds down but we also have no idea of what is being hidden from us. This gives who ever is in charge to control what we can and can't see without our knowlege. The "blacklist" is a top secret document that the public aren't to know about. We need to be aware that once implemented it will most likely never end. If you're worried about what your children see monitor them, do you let them go to strangers houses by themselves? No? Well allowing them to use the net unsupervised is very similar. You never know what information they're giving out that can put themselves and their family in danger. You also don't know what is being said to them. I don't want anyone to take this the wrong way but I work in I.T. and I think it is up to the parents to monitor their children online.
The other reason the government wants to put this in is to stop people from viewing kiddy porn. How are you going to catch those who view it if they can't view it? If they can't view it how are they going to satisfy their urges? Don't implement the filter, Australia doesn't want it. Spend the money cyber stalking the predators and put them behind bars where they belong.
phew, that's my two cents worth

| I agree 100%, jodels.
Parents, not the government, should monitor their kids. Though maybe I'm being cynical, but I think that the 'protect our children' is the sugar coating of the real agenda, which is the implementation of an unknown list of web sites, which may well change and grow hourly.
Had I wanted my internet to be censored, I'd go live in China.

| This is a very interesting thread. I fully believe the government is trying to "close our minds" by hiding eye opening material and free inventions. Also, the truth about how and who the real powers are, where they come from, what corporations are doing evil in the world etc.
Heard of Zero point energy? look it up if you haven't. There would be no need for Petrol, gasoline etc. Heard about the blow torch that is powered from salt water and electricity? This thing was absolutely amazing. Use you tube or youtube like websites.
Soon after electricity was invented, they used it to cure breast cancer and AIDS by passing a low current through the body killing all cancerous cells. When antibiotics were invented, they took over the silver electrodes because of shelf life, cost etc.
Anything the government cannot effectively tax, such as marijuana (which itself has many medicinal uses) is deemed illegal. Yet they can get you on your medication which some contain the very drugs we are banned for using for fun. A drug screening will ahve you test positive for opiates if you have codeine. I have heard that a certain government affiliated research centre in melbourne are actually growing Labratory marijuana for medical research. Guess who is paying for that? TAXPAYERS. Hang on I thought it was illegal??
Hitler once said "The greatest threat to any Government, is the common man that thinks for himself". Then he introduced fluoride into our water.
To end my ramblings, the government will always try to take our freedoms, after all, you aren't special if everyone else knows and has what you know and have..
hmmm. Believe it or not, do your research.
thanks. | | | |

| | I think the censoring is not the right way to go about it. Parents really need to watch what their kids are doing, and everyone needs to report suspicious behaviour and any unsavoury sites they come across. | | | |
