| | I have tried so many over the years and still havent found 'the one' - so the search is still on. There are new sorts always coming on the market - and Im sure parents would love to use a range of products and compare before committing to the expense of something that may or may not work. Some of the stuff is so strong it nearly knocks you out and my kids just dont stop complaining. It is certainly something that will always be needed. What do others think and has anyone found something that works? | | | |

| | I find Moove quite good, definently works on the lice but not the eggs (nothing ever does) but it comes with a cap to cover the hair. This is the one I always buy but if there was something better I'd definently be willing to give it a go. | | | |

| | I agree nits are a problem the products only work one or two times and in summer my friend and I spend so much on stuff to kill them. The kids heads are red and hurt so bad. | | | |

| | I had a real problem with nits a few years ago. I tried everything. I think I even ended up getting them, I coloured my hair and it ended my itching. Anyway, I know everyone says this one(I got tired of hearing it)a few months ago, 1 of my daughters got them again and I just did the combing and conditioner once a week until they went. This was the cheapest way ever and it worked! | | | |

| | Hi Janecody. I have used them on my kids but they complained that they hurt. They didn't like the odd electric shock they would get! Also the batteries don't last very long. The one I had was difficult to keep a good grip on. It was the Robi Comb Pro. Like all the products it did kill the live lice but if you don't get every single one of those eggs out the vicious cycle starts all over again. I don't believe any product is effective in getting rid of the eggs. The only way is to pull them off the hair shaft with your fingernails (helps if you have long ones lol). Of course if anyone can recommend a product for egg removal I'd always be willing to give it a go. I have three school aged children but only my youngest one ever gets head lice now since the older two moved to secondary school. Because she has long hair it is a nightmare to control. | | | |

| Some great new suggestions and some tried and true! We also used an electric comb, a robi one too, and it made a sound like it had just got one but never seemed easy to use or very successful. The kids didnt like it though as the needles were too blunt and dug in to the scalp. I found the needles too short to ever get through my kids thick hair. I persisted with it for a bit but it just stopped working one day. I took it back to the chemist and they gave me a new one, but that had the same issues and again stopped working. And no - it wasnt the battery. I didnt do anything the second time and I think the comb still sits in the medicine cabinet waiting to suddenly come to life!
Anyway, I too still stand by the conditioner treatment in the shower as the best but find kp24 very strong but quite powerful, while neutralice is more gentle and also quite effective. I try and mix them around, so they dont get too familiar with the products

| | I too have tried almost everything, including the eltronic combs which didn't work on my daughters ultra thick hair. I have found the conditioner and nails treatment to be the best but prevention is better. High school students don't seem to get them as much because they are always using gel, mousse and hairspray. This makes it so that the lice can't get a hold as easily so they don't get them. I have now started using hairspray on my teenagers all the time as they babysit frequently but to date we haven't had an outbreak in over 5 years. Hope this trick helps someone. | | | |

| There is a product out called ecokid - it's made of 100% essential oils and is biodegradible..... that said... my daugther was getting nits every week at school, I spoke to my hairdresser about it and she told me to try this ecokids - I wash her hair in their shampoo (I use my own conditioner) and every morning , i spray the leave-in-conditioner in her hair before she goes to school... she has NEVER had nits again and it has now been 4 months!! Every week without fail, a note is sent home that someone in her class has nits, yet, so far, we have not caught them again.
I swear by this product... and the fact that its all natura is a bonus!!! You can check it out for yourself at www.ecokid.com.au.
Gee, I sound like an add don't I - maybe vibevillage should get onto them about getting some samples out there!!!

| | ecokids sounds great. I had problems when I was at school and mum was forever trying new products. the only thing that worked was an essential oil that you can't buy any more as its to potent. I work at a school and when I was breastfeeding my oldest who was only about 3 months old I found one on her head and descovered that I had them again obliously from one of my students as I was back at work. I had a real debate over what was safe to use while breastfeeding. I ended up doing the conditioner thind but every day for a week then every three days for the next two weeks followed by once every five days since then, almost five years now. but I hear theres a product that you spray on like hairspray and it turns the eggs and lice pink. so you can find them, this would be good to try. | | | |

| | Yes - my chemist has that pink stuff and a few people I know have tried it... they all reckon it was just like bright pink hairspray that made the hair as stiff as a board. No-one seemed to rate it very highly, but then, I haven't used it so I really don't know. | | | |

| | Wet the children's hair and then put conditioner thru the hair and get the nit comb and comb it thru,I have done this and it works but you still have to pull out the remaining nits and eggs.i find this better than using the nit shampoo as it make their heads itch more. Then get a empty spray bottle and add a few drops of orange oil, lavender and tea tree oil with some water and spray the hair after you have rinsed out the conditioner, trust me it works,I wouldnt have told you if it didnt work and hopefully you will find the kids will be a bit happier.hope this works for you too. | | | |

| I was approached by a lady in a car park yesterday with a leaflet on a lavender based natural product called ECIL by lavenderwerkz, comes as a conditioner and shampoo $15 each or $25 two bottle pack for 250mls. Don't know if it's worth it as i just use the cheap conditioner every couple of days this helps break the cycle. however the conditioner treatment needs to be done at a maximum of 5 day intervals not seven. Thanks for the spray tip stablemate i never thought to add the orange oil I've used lavender and tea tree though. | | | |

| I've been spraying my kids hair with Crisp (the laundry starch). We have never had lice even though many in the school have had it. With hairspray I found that the hair got very ratty very quickly. Crisp actually keeps it clean looking all day.
As an aside - I use this in my own hair on days when I want to keep it managable because helps with the straightening process and keeps it straight even on humid days..

| My daughter is always coming home with nits and it is driving me barmy. Once her head is treated all is fine - about 2 weeks later they return.
We use a preventative spray - quit nits daily but this is not working. I also use hairspray and have tea tree oil in her shampoo.
I am so over spending a fortune each month on nits products. i wish I had something that worked.

We use Euculyptus Wool Wash for nits my daughter was constantly getting them through primary School and the Hairdresser for my wedding suggested the wool wash over a product sold by all hairdressers well over $40 for a 3 piece system that we found worked ok but was abit of a time sucker..
Proccess we use lather the wool wash all over the hair till its coated but not too foamy try just gently massaging into hair so it stays as a thick gel sort of consistancy...
Wrap hair in cling wrap/shower cap or if on a weekend allow to dry naturally i prefer to leave as long as possible so i leave it in her hair over night wrapped in cling wrap.
In the morning she rinses it out and brushes her hair
We Sucessfully went 4 years of primary school with no nits whatso ever just doing this once a month once they were erradicated...
Then just the other day she came home with them in her first year at highschool So we did the process again Normally no shampooing or Conditoning but this time she washes and conditioned her hair and we didnt do a follow up a week later like normally do and they havent returned no nit combs used to remove the eggs or dead bodies they just seemed to wash down drain when washed and no eggs anywhere in her hair and at $4 a bottle its cheap and easy to do...
